An urban jungle! The military have only recently given access to the rugged Son Tra peninsula, otherwise known as Monkey Mountain. The jungle-clad mountain rises straight out of Danang and the South China Sea to 696m, and protects the city’s harbour. During the war, the Americans had a radar base at the top of the peninsula, and the domes can still be seen today.

We drive to the remote mountain village of Prao, stopping along the way at historic Cham towers and monuments from the French Indochina war. After morning tea, we ascend the highlands through Co Tu minority towns, stopping for a picnic lunch and swimming in mountain streams.
