Da Nang – Hoi An Tour (3D/2N - RT074)

Tour Code: RT-074

Day 1: Da Nang airport/station – Hoi An (L)

Pick up at Da Nang airport and transfer to Hoi An (this is a major Asian trading port in the 17th and 18th centuries and its architecture and relaxed lifestyle has changed little over the years). Free at your leisure.

Overnight in Hoi An.

Day 2: Countryside Hoi An (L)

This day-long excursion combines a bicycle tour of coconut palm fringed villages and a coracle tour of the waterways. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the cultivation of organic produce alongside one of the local farmers. A great way to experience rural Vietnam, and with your new cooking skills, you can take a small part of Vietnam home with you.

09.00: Your guide will meet you at your hotel. From here your gentle cycle tour takes you on the short but beautiful ride through lush farm land, rice fields and small villages to the village of Cam Thanh. We stop along the way to visit local villagers and see how they use their surrounding resources to craft a living using age old methods.

10.00: Take a trip along the winding river by coracle (basket) boat. A local family and guide will take you on a journey through the untouched waterways, fringed by river coconut palms. Take the opportunity to see a local fisherman dredge the river bed in search of river snails.

11.00: Arrive at Tra Que village. Enjoy the village tour to nurseries and herb gardens abundant with bird’s eye chilli, lemongrass, basil, coriander and spring onions. All thriving in the rich soil. 11.30: Jump right in and see how the plots are planted, tended and watered with the guidance of local family farmers.

12.00: Relax and enjoy a traditional herbal foot massage in the garden.

12.45: Join in with a cookery class hosted by a local family. Each cooking lesson starts with a short introduction, explanations and demonstration of starters, accompaniments, main course and dessert. Then you roll up your sleeves and try your hand at preparing your own Hoi An 3 course specialty lunch. Sit back and enjoy your culinary creations at the family table overlooking the locals tending their land.

15.30: Board your bicycles for a gentle ride back to Hoi An and your hotel taking in the rice paddies and farmers leading their water bufallo home along the country roads.

16.00: Arrive back at your hotel.

Day 3: My Son jeep and boat (L)

07.30 Your jeep and guide will meet you at your hotel. We start our jeep tour through the countryside, stopping at the busy fish market on the outskirts of town for some great photo opportunities. Your drive continues the 50kms to My Son, passing breath taking scenery, rural villages and a bustling town and markets. We stop at an ancient Banyan Tree in Nam Phuoc and enjoy a Vietnamese coffee.

09.00 We continue our jeep tour to My Son and arrive to the haunting sound of Cham music, where we stop to take in the vibrantly dressed dancers enjoying a traditional dance performance. Your walking tour to the Cham ruins begins with a short ascent along a track bordered by jungle. As we reach the top, the ancient ruins appear. While you explore the area your guide will explain the history of the religious site which served as a burial site for the Cham monarchs many centuries ago.

11.00 Once we have explored My Son, we take the drive back to Hoi An by jeep to start our boat trip.

12.00 Before boarding our boat, we visit the Thanh Ha pottery village. The village is famous for its earthen ware and thrived in the 16th and 17th centuries. It continues to make the bricks and tiles and other earthen wares for the buildings in the Old Town. After our tour we continue to Thanh Ha Pier, you board your private boat and take a cruise through the Hoi An countryside along the picturesque Thu Bon river.

12.30 Relax and enjoy a Vietnamese cooking demonstration on board the boat.

14.00 We stop and enjoy the sights and sounds of Tra Nhieu fishing village, the Duy Hai fishing market and stunning coconut forest of Bay Mau.

Optional activity: Consider a range of optional activities as part of your tour. Kayaks and bicycles are stored on board. You can enjoy a kayak trip or paddle in a bamboo basket boat on the river or a bicycle trip to Dong Binh Village to enjoy a closer look at the daily lives of the villagers.

15.00 Return to either Nguyen Hoang or Thuan Tinh dock and after a short stroll to your vehicle, we return to your hotel.
