Cooking Class & Traditional Handicraft Villages – 1 Day Jeep Tour
Most tourists who come to Hoi An are struck by the huge array of beautiful products on sale in the shops or boutique, many of these are made at Moc Kim Bong village and are endowed with deep cultural significance. The red ceramics from Thanh Ha village are mainly used as household culinary utensils, and the abundant Tra Que vegetables have a distinctive aroma, the fishing village of Thanh Nam, The lantern making handicraft with its products is lit up at night with the most beautiful, multi-colored decorative lanterns. Beside this tour, you will spend a valued time for a Cooking Class in the morning that is an interesting and fun way to learn about the local cuisine.

Cooking class tour in the morning:
We start the day (8.15am / 1.30pm) with a drink at Hai Scout Café – our meeting point.
Visit the colorful market, and experience the amazing sights, sounds and aromas of this busy market. We will have the opportunity to interact with the local sellers and purchase some of the ingredients to be used in the cooking lesson later.
We board the Red Bridge boat for a leisurely cruise (25 minutes) along the Hoi An River to the Red Bridge Cooking School. This is a chance to view local river life, so make sure your camera is handy.
On arrival, we explore the cooking school’s herb and vegetable garden, before learning about some of Hoi An’s and Vietnam’s well-known dishes. The cooking lesson runs for about 2 hours – each dish is first demonstrated by the Red Bridge chef’s, before we prepare the same dish ourselves. Included in the class is a brief introduction to Vietnamese food carving (plate decoration). After the lesson, we sit down and eat exactly what we have cooked.

Handicraft traditional villages tour in the afternoon by Jeep:
Ride a wild Jeep to Thanh Nam fishing village. Here you will receive a brief introduction to the history of the village and a tour of the display room with its traditional fishing tools such as: basket, net, wooden boat, fishing trap, basket,). Continue to Thanh Ha pottery village where you can learn and enjoy the daily life of Thanh Ha people. Observing the steps of making a pottery product: vase, pot, kettle, cooking pot, after here, you have a short drive through the local countryside for Tra Que Village. A welcome drink of freshly picked fruits is waiting you before we take a walk around the village and learn about the history and customs of this charming village. We walk through the market gardens where hundreds of local farmers work their fields using the traditional methods of hundreds of years ago - no electrical machinery here.
We return to the local farmer’s home, and this is where the real fun begins. Everyone is given farming instruments, and we set about joining the farmers in preparing the land for sewing. Our guide describes the traditional farming methods while we help fertilize the garden using seaweed from the local river, and then water it using huge tin cans strapped to our back. Time is then spent picking vegetables and herbs, and learning how to wrap them to prevent damage.
Many of the local herbs are used by the farmers for traditional village medicines - this includes the herbal pillow, which helps relax your body and mind, ready for a good night's sleep. The tour finishes about 4 pm.
