ITINERARY
Be one of the first to explore the beautiful Unesco Phong Nha caves. The longest cave network in Asia. An incredible day trip to one of Vietnam’s most spectacular caves in the heart of the Phong Nha Ke Bang conservation area.
7:00 After an early breakfast at your hotel, your car and guide will take you on the beautiful drive to Phong Nha Caves. Taking you through the Quang Tri province along the spectacular Highway 1, we stop off at Vietnam’s Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ, the area around the former border between North and South Vietnam and have lunch at a local restaurant before driving the final part of our journey to Phong Nha.
We board a classic Vietnamese boat and cruise along the river taking us deep into the cave, right in the heart of a limestone mountain range. We pass by magically illuminated, natural limestone formations, stunning stalagmites and stalactites which are thousands of years of existence. 700 m into the caves we get the chance to disembark from the boat and take an extraordinary walk through 500 m of some of the finest and most distinctive examples of karst landforms, with the opportunity to explore the remains of Cham Alters and marvel at the old Champa inscriptions etched deep in the limestone centuries ago.
The cave was discovered in 2005 by the British Cave Research Association. The atmosphere in Thien Duong is always cool and moist with an average temperature of 20-21oC. Sitting in front of the cave you can feel a cold blast of air, a pleasing respite from the 30-35oC heat outside.
17:30 Leave Phong Nha for the journey back to Hue, stopping at a local restaurant for dinner.
20:00 Arrive at your hotel in Hue.
