ITINERARY
A short day trip around the Imperial City of Hue. A fantastic opportunity to see all the highlights of Hue in a day with a knowledgeable tour guide to share the history of such a vibrant, cultural city. This tour brings you close to the life of the country’s imperial past, through Tu Duc and Khai Dinh’s mausoleums, the imposing Citadel which housed Emperors for over a century dating from 1092. With a scenic boat trip on the Perfume River.
09:00 Guide and driver will meet you at your hotel in Hue and your morning will begin with a boat ride on the peaceful Perfume River.
10:00 Disembark to visit the serene Thien Mu Pagoda, overlooking the Perfume River, it is the offi cial symbol of the city of Hue. We then move on to the Tomb of Tu Duc. A vast, sprawling complex set around a lake, with wooden pavilions, tombs and temples dedicated to wives and favoured courtesans (Tu Duc had 104 to choose from). The courtesans’ quarters are in ruins, with only outlines and crumbling walls left amid waves of overgrown grass and silence, but other areas are stunningly well-preserved.
12:30 Before lunch stop at the nearby village and learn how incense and conical hats are crafted.
13:00 Lunch at local restaurant.
Optional: Lunch prepared by Buddhist nuns at the Thien Mu Pagoda.
14:00 This afternoon, explore the tomb of Khai Dinh, before taking in the impressive Citadel. Visit the Flag Tower, Noon Gate, Nine Dynastic Urns and the Nine Holy Cannons, finally stopping off at Thai Hoa Palace - The emperor’s coronation hall and the surrounding ruins of the Forbidden Purple City.
17:30 Return to your hotel.
