Experience the beauty of Hue Imperial and explore Vietnam’s Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ where is the area around the former border between North and South Vietnam. Visit the war sites and witness the former battles of conflict: Khe Sanh Combat Base, Quang Tri citadel, Vinh Moc tunnels,…The area saw heavy fighting in the war.
ITINERARY IN DETAIL
Day 1: Phu Bai airport/Hue station + city Hue (L)
This morning, you will take a flight to Hue Imperial city. We will pick you up at Hue Airport/station upon your arrival and transfer to your hotel. Drop your luggage there.
Start the day with a boat trip on the Perfume River to the Thien Mu Pagoda. The pagoda is an icon of Vietnam with an interesting history, set on a hill overlooking the river.
Next stop we will visit Kim Long Village by private car. This village used to be the residential area for the Mandarins and many of the old houses have been persevered. Visit a Garden House; a beautiful and harmonic complex of house, garden, pond, and yard. Explore the royal residences and temples in the Imperial Citadel, where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945. After the visit to this impressive monument, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
On the way to two of the impressive royal tombs, stop at a village where incense sticks are produced. The extravagant mausoleums are set in wonderful natural landscapes along the river south of Hue. You visit the enormous tomb of Tu Duc. Back in Hue, take time to stroll around the lively and colourful Dong Ba Market.
After the show, you will transfer back to hotel and enjoy the rest of day free at leisure.
Day 2: Hue – DMZ – Hue (L)
7:00 Pick up at your hotel in Hue, start this DMZ or Demilitarized Zone tour to depart to Dong Ha town, have short break and relax. First stop to visit the Rockpile, Dakrong Bridge, Ho Chi Minh trails on the way to to Khe Sanh combat base – one of the violent battles in Quang Tri, one US base fell under attack in early 1968. You’ll also see the remaining of an old airfield. Visit the museum of Ta Con airport to see the things in nature of the fierce war, and how hard Quang Tri people fight against the enemy.
Have lunch at restaurant in Dong Ha town.
Afternoon, continue along the highway 1, you also learn about the history of old citadel of Quang Tri, Church of La Vang, stop at Hien Luong Bridge, Ben Hai River – which marked the former border between North and South Vietnam from 1954 to 1972. Next stop to visit Vinh Moc tunnels – a network of tunnels built by villagers seeking shelter from bombings during the American War, this is the place where an entire village lived and fought for two and a half years.
We finish this DMZ tour at your hotel in Hue around 18:30.
